This course seeks to unlock each student's capacity for rhetoric in the English language, with a simultaneous focus on critical reading skills, and relevant terminology. It offers the contextual knowledge of the development of rhetoric in the Western tradition, guided by the Oxford Handbook of Rhetorical Studies. This trains students in terminology, writing skills, and critical reading.
The course also seeks to build skills of critical judgement and reasoning, through exam-style written analysis of specially chosen texts that offer both an engaging subject focus, and extensive use of advanced vocabulary and structural expression.
This course operates seamlessly with GCSE English Literature.
