My younger sister is very interested in pursuring a career in Medicine as she's always wanted to be a doctor. We have no family or friends in the field, so this tool was amazing. We managed to secure a 4 day placement for her on a Cardiology ward in West London.
I would like to say a big thank you to the Studdle Team and their partners for organising my son's work experience on a construction site. He was looking all over for a suitable placement and his school was struggling to find one. Thank you 🙏🏽
I attended a workshop recently for careers. Studdle was showcasing their Free Work Experience tool and I was looking to improve my CV to help get into London School of Economics for PPE. I managed to get an in-person placement at an Investment Bank. Have shared the tool with all my friends and family!!
I recently moved from Hong Kong to the UK and was looking for some STEM work experience. I am interested in Engineering and Studdle helped me find a placement at British Airways. The placement was really nice and I found a mentor there too, who is now helping me with my university applications.

Work experience helps students develop key skills like communication and teamwork while giving them a practical understanding of different industries. It also enhances their CV, making them more attractive to universities and employers by showcasing real-world experience and initiative.
A good work experience placement offers hands-on tasks related to the student’s interests, opportunities to observe and ask questions, and guidance from professionals. It should foster skill development, networking and active participation in a supportive environment.
Work experience placements typically last from a few days to two weeks, but some can extend to several months, especially during summer breaks or gap years. The ideal duration depends on the industry, the student’s schedule, and the depth of the experience they want to gain. Short placements can provide a quick insight, while longer ones offer more hands-on learning and skill development.
In-person work experience offers hands-on tasks and direct interaction, fostering practical skills and workplace confidence (very important post-pandemic!). Virtual placements are more flexible, eliminating travel and focusing on digital projects, making them ideal for remote learning and networking. Both formats provide valuable insights but cater to different needs. Students should try and do both for a holistic exposure of the working world!
Year 9-12 students can explore a range of work experiences, including internships, volunteering, part-time jobs, and job shadowing. Placements can be in diverse fields like retail, hospitality, tech, healthcare, and creative industries, depending on their interests.
Year 9 placements don’t need to be industry specific at this early stage as it’s more about becoming familiar to the working world. However, Year 10-12 placements should be industry-specific, especially for year 12 students. This is because any insights gained during work experience play an instrumental role in developing soft skills and your UCAS application for university.
