Methods:
Firstly, it is best to expand the brackets to get: 2c+10+5c-35 (be mindful of the signs inside and outside the bracket because you might get a double minus sign that results in a +, however that is not the case here) when we collect like terms that means that we are grouping the same terms together. As an example, we can use the analogy of adding 5 apples and 2 oranges; we can’t collect like terms because apples and oranges aren’t the same fruit, therefore we cannot simplify further. However, in this case we can because we have: 2c+5c=7c And we have 10-35=-25 (don’t be alarmed if you get an answer that has a large negative value, just be sure to check again).
