Produce the Grignard reagent Mg in a dry ether (ethoxyethane) with CH3CH2BrCH3CH2Br + Mg —> CH3CH2MgBr Addition reaction with the Grignard and CO2 to produce a Carboxylic acid Must be hydrolysed using a dilute acid H2OCh3CH2MgBr + CO2 —> CH3CH2COOH + Mg(OH)Br.
